Oléa marks a turning point in Sarine Semerjian's practice, introducing a vibrant palette while continuing her exploration of the body, land and inherited experience. Inspired by the olive tree, a symbol of endurance and belonging across the Levant, the work emerged from witnessing the stark contrast between destruction and everyday life unfolding simultaneously across Lebanon.

Human figures form the tree's roots, anchoring it to the land, while olives transform into watchful eyes that act as quiet protectors. Rich with movement and organic forms, the painting blurs the boundaries between nature and the body, reflecting Semerjian's belief that both carry histories beyond words. Revealing itself gradually, Oléa is a meditation on resilience, identity and the enduring connection between people and place.
