Khozema Al-Aaed
This work reimagines the map as an emotional terrain. Al Aaed was inspired by a French song whose lyrics lingered with him: “Have it paved with sparkling stones for my lover to walk upon… That is called loneliness… Who stole my heart.” The line reflects longing and the quiet endurance of love in absence, a duality of presence and emptiness that deeply informs the composition.
A path crosses the surface as an emotional trajectory, suggesting a passage prepared for someone cherished. Carved cavities function as sites of memory, while eroded metal and intersecting lines evoke love shaped by tension and time. Rather than narrating a completed love story, the work reflects on the imprint love leaves behind. It is not a geographic map, but a map of the heart.
