Press Release TextMaraya Art Centre Presents Who I Become by Salmah Al Mansoori Exploring memory, material, and transformation through an evolving artistic practice Maraya Art Centre presents Who I Become, a solo exhibition by Salmah Al Mansoori, curated by Cima Azzam. The exhibition opened on 26 April 2026 and runs until 30 July 2026 at Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah.Bringing together a body of work that spans works on paper, material-based compositions, and spatial installations, Who I Become reflects a practice deeply rooted in process, experimentation, and transformation. Working with fibres, organic elements, and found materials, Al Mansoori explores how matter evolves over time, tracing its accumulation, fragmentation, and reconfiguration. At the core of the exhibition lies an inquiry into memory—how it is formed, carried, and reshaped. Through her engagement with handmade paper derived from palm and alfalfa fibres, alongside the incorporation of materials such as spices and found objects, Al Mansoori constructs a visual language where material itself becomes an archive. These elements hold traces of place and experience, allowing memory to surface not as fixed narrative, but as layered and fluid.“This series of works reflects my journey of assembling fragments of experience across time and space, where layers of memory shape who I am becoming.” — Salmah Al MansooriThe works presented move between the intimate and the spatial, inviting viewers to encounter memory as both a personal and physical phenomenon. Through processes of layering, mark-making, and material transformation, Al Mansoori builds compositions that exist in-between states—between past and present, presence and absence, form and dissolution.Who I Become reflects an evolving practice that resists fixity, instead embracing becoming as an ongoing condition. It offers a contemplative space where material, memory, and identity intersect, and where what is often overlooked is reactivated through acts of making.
