"I am become death, destroyer of worlds" is a famous phrase from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, and it was later used by Oppenheimer when he witnessed the detonation of the first nuclear bomb in 1945. In February 2021, Tesla's CEO Elon Musk commandeered the phrase in a tweet that read: "I am become meme, Destroyer of shorts" – a tongue in cheek poke at short sellers who drive stock prices down. The phrase also peripherally implies that an internet meme is as powerful as an atomic bomb. The layering of references and concealed meaning is also apparent in this mosaic work, allowing the artist to assume the role of an archivist operating within the digital space.
