Firetti Contemporary is pleased to announce Who I Become, a solo exhibition by Salmah Almansoori, curated by Cima Azzam, on view at Maraya Art Centre from 26 April to 30 July 2026.
The exhibition brings together a body of work that explores the evolving relationship between memory, material, and place. Rooted in Almansoori’s connection to her hometown of Ghayathi, the works examine how environments shape identity over time, positioning place not as a fixed backdrop but as an active force in personal and cultural formation.
Working across painting, installation, and material-based practices, Almansoori constructs visual narratives through fragments of lived experience. Central to the exhibition are processes of collecting and transformation, where found materials, photographs, and surfaces are reworked into new forms that carry both personal and collective memory. In particular, her use of transferred imagery onto reclaimed materials reflects an ongoing dialogue between past and present, permanence and erosion.
The exhibition also features key bodies of work that expand this inquiry, including explorations of abandoned spaces, architectural remnants, and symbolic thresholds. Through these works, Almansoori reflects on absence, transition, and the layered histories embedded within everyday environments.
Who I Become positions memory as something fluid and continuously reshaped, where acts of making become a means of both preservation and transformation.
