Firetti Contemporary presents Ahmad Tallaa × Rawaa Talass: Life, Memory & the Making of an Artist, a conversation exploring the artist’s life, memory, and artistic journey. The discussion will trace Tallaa’s experiences growing up in an artistic family in Damascus and studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts during the war, alongside the development of his multidisciplinary practice.
Born in Damascus, Syria, in 1989, Ahmad Tallaa is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, printmaking, handmade paper, artist books, and musical instruments. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, Tallaa comes from a family of artists and was deeply influenced by his father, the renowned painter and sculptor Marwan Tallaa. His work explores memory, identity, and the human condition, using the face as a central language and the body as a record of time and experience. Tallaa lives and works in Dubai.
Joining him in conversation is Rawaa Talass, a freelance Syrian writer and journalist specializing in art and culture from the Middle East and its diaspora communities. Born in Japan and raised in the United Arab Emirates, Talass holds two Master’s degrees in art history from the University of Kent (Paris) and SOAS University of London. Based in Dubai, her writing has appeared in Artsy, The Art Newspaper, Arab News, The New Arab, AD Middle East, Vogue Arabia, Canvas Magazine, Kayhan Life, Al Arabiya English, and The National UAE.
