Firetti Contemporary, in collaboration with Ornare Dubai, presents Living Layers, an exhibition of works by Syrian artist Mahmood Al Daoud, opening on 5 November 2026 at the Ornare showroom in City Walk as part of Dubai Design Week.
Bringing contemporary art into dialogue with interior design, Living Layers explores the relationship between material, memory and the spaces we inhabit. The exhibition reflects on how art and design, while distinct in their approaches, share an ability to transform our surroundings and shape the way we experience them.
Al Daoud's artistic practice is rooted in an exploration of nature, memory and renewal. Through layered compositions, expressive gestures and rich textures, his works evoke landscapes and organic forms that exist somewhere between abstraction and imagination. Colour and material play a central role in his practice, creating surfaces that carry a sense of movement, depth and transformation.
Presented within Ornare's showroom, the works invite a dialogue between artistic expression and the craftsmanship of contemporary design. The exhibition considers how materials, textures and forms influence our perception of space, and how the objects and artworks we choose to live with can become extensions of our identities, memories and personal experiences.
Rather than treating art as a decorative addition to an interior, Living Layers invites visitors to consider its presence as an integral part of the spaces we inhabit, capable of introducing emotion, meaning and new perspectives into everyday environments.
To mark the exhibition's opening, a panel discussion titled What Makes a Space Personal? will bring together Mahmood Al Daoud and Carina Fontes, Managing Partner of Ornare Dubai, moderated by Mara Firetti, Founder and CEO of Firetti Contemporary. The conversation will explore the intersections of art, design and personal expression.
