Salmah Almansoori was featured in Contemporary Lynx’s selection of 12 artists to watch across Africa and the MENA region, highlighting her practice and its engagement with heritage, landscape, materiality, and the changing environments of the UAE.
Rooted in her connection to Ghayathi in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region, Almansoori’s work considers how places, objects, and materials can hold traces of histories while continuing to transform. Her practice reflects on the tension between preservation and change, drawing attention to the cultural and emotional significance embedded within everyday materials and landscapes.
Through handmade paper, painting, photography, found materials, and installation, Almansoori reworks familiar forms and fragile surfaces into spaces for reflection. Her works explore how material can become a vessel for memory and how inherited knowledge can be carried forward through processes of transformation, fragmentation, and reconstruction.
The Contemporary Lynx feature highlights Almansoori’s ongoing interest in documenting overlooked narratives and examining the relationship between personal experience, cultural inheritance, and place. Across her practice, material becomes a way of tracing what remains, what changes, and how connections to landscape and heritage can be carried into the present.
