The politics of power are at play in this series by Lebanese-Armenian Jacques Vartabedian. The faceless, marching people in his Human Pattern works depict synchronised isolation. The movement in a single yet unspecified direction asks the viewer to reflect upon the actions of those following political doctrines. It questions the controlling mechanisms of power. The homogenous nature of the people move them beyond the realm of individuals capable of complex and differentiated communication into a single body, vulnerable to the hierarchy imposed upon them by diverse ideologies couched in political structures.
